UGC decides qualifying criteria to select aspirants to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship. The criteria are mentioned below:

Only 6% of candidates who appeared will qualify the exam and become eligible for Assistant Professor. A category-wise reservation policy will be applied for these 6% qualified candidates.

The subject-wise merit list and UGC NET qualifying criteria for Lectureship as per category will be prepared on the basis of the formula mentioned below:

Number. of Qualified Candidates (General Category) for Lectureship in English Subject

The number of candidates (General category) who secure a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in papers 1 & 2 taken for ‘English’ (x) Total number of slots available under General category (÷) Total number of candidates (General category) overall subjects who secure at least 40% aggregate marks in both papers combined.
