Analysis of CLAT Exam Pattern 2021

  1. Passage-based questions - Each section of the CLAT UG question paper (except for the Quantitative Techniques section) will include multiple passages of 300-400 words each. These passages will be followed by a set of multiple-choice questions. The objective section of CLAT PG will also comprise passage-based questions.
  2. Quantitative section is an outlier: This section will have "short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial, or diagrammatic representations of numerical information." Questions will be based on these passages, graphs, pictorial representations, etc.
  3. Descriptive section: In a big development, the essay or descriptive section is dropped from CLAT PG. So, the CLAT PG exam will now include only objective-type or multiple-choice questions.
  4. Standard of questions asked: CLAT UG will be of Class 12th standard.
  5. Skills to be tested - As per the Consortium of NLUs, the paper will test the reading ability of candidates along with critical thinking and analytical skills. In previous editions of the test, the CLAT papers were used to be designed to test the knowledge of various subjects and topics.
  6. Total number of questions in CLAT and marking scheme - In CLAT UG, there will be a total of 150 questions. However, the CLAT LLM will have 120 questions. In the objective section, each question will carry one mark and an incorrect answer will draw a negative marking of 0.25 marks.
