CLAT merit list 2021 - Details Mentioned

The merit list includes the following details.

  • Marks score by the candidate

  • All India Rank

  • Admit card number

Where Can I see my CLAT 2021 Category Rank?

The consortium doesn’t provide a category-specific merit list. However, candidates may check their CLAT category rank by logging into the admission portal. The category rank of CLAT plays a crucial role in deciding whether the candidate will get admission to an NLU or not. Many national law universities provide domicile reservation, so the category reservation supported by the domicile reservation can give substantial benefits to the candidates in the admission process.

CLAT Merit Rank - Tiebreaker

If two or more candidates score the same marks in the CLAT exam, then the merit rank of such candidates will be decided in the following sequence:

  • The candidates with a higher score in the “CLAT Legal Aptitude” section will be ranked higher

  • If the tie is still unresolved, the candidate senior in age gets a higher rank

  • If a deadlock continues even after age criteria, it will finally be decided by a computerized draw of lots.

CLAT merit list 2021 - Process Explained

The all India CLAT 2021 merit list will be prepared using the marks obtained by the candidates in the Common Law Admission Test. The merit list will include all candidates irrespective of their CLAT qualification status. It is a comprehensive list of the candidates in descending order of their CLAT marks. Those who score a higher mark will be given a better rank than the rest of the candidates. For example; the CLAT topper will have AIR 1 rank and will be followed by someone who has second-highest marks.

Why is the CLAT Merit List Important?

The merit list is very important, given the fact that admissions to all national law universities are offered based on merit. It becomes less important how much a candidate scores if the rank is higher than others. The consortium also takes the CLAT merit list for making the invite list for counselling. And, at the time of counselling, someone getting a higher rank than others will be given preference in NLU seat allotment. So, it is recommended that candidates try to aim for a higher rank if they wish to get into a college of their choice, especially a top-ranked institute

What is the CLAT Invite List?

It is released after the declaration of the CLAT result and merit list. The invite list of CLAT is basically a list of the candidates whom the consortium invites for attending the counselling process. Those who become part of the invite list of CLAT 2021 will have to log in at consortiumofnlus.ac.in and register for the counselling. Note here that the invite list includes 5 times more candidates than the total number of seats. So, having a name on the invite list is also not a guarantee of admission. One has to secure a good rank on the CLAT merit list in order to get a seat in NLU. Those who do not find a place in the CLAT 2021 invite list will be more or less out of the race to NLU.
