# How to Prepare for CLAT Maths 2025 - Preparation Tips & Strategy

How to prepare for CLAT elementary maths - CLAT Consortium has changed the CLAT test modalities for this year. The elementary mathematics of CLAT 2025 will be different from the traditional mathematics as we see in other law entrance exams. The CLAT maths questions will not be simple mathematical operations, rather, there will be passages with information, or graphs, textual, pictorial representations. Candidates will need to use the given information in the CLAT paper to answer the questions. Thus, the CLAT preparation for maths section has to be in line with the new changes. The simple mathematical operations are still important but candidates will also need to demonstrate key skills such as logical thinking, using the given information to solve problems, manipulating the numerical information given in the Common Law Admission Test. Read the complete article on how to prepare for CLAT elementary maths to learn more about the CLAT elementary mathematics preparation, type of questions and other important information.

## CLAT elementary mathematics - What will be asked?

There will be around 13-17 questions from CLAT elementary maths. The CLAT syllabus suggests a diverse range of topics and patterns such as short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information. Each passage or diagram or graph will be followed by a series of questions. The details of CLAT elementary mathematics are given below.

### CLAT elementary maths - Test structure

## How to prepare for CLAT elementary maths?

The Consortium says, practice is the key in preparing for Quantitative Techniques. The questions will be asked from tenth standard books with some slight modifications. Though, the exam pattern including the test structure have undergone some changes, still the candidates must be able to do the basic mathematical operations. The following preparation tips would be beneficial in CLAT elementary maths.

### CLAT maths preparation - Develop basic maths skills

As per the new CLAT exam pattern 2020, the standard of maths section will be of Class 10th. Candidates should start practicing the basic numerical problems of metric level. Refer to any CLAT maths book of 10th standard, and start practising the exercise given in them. The skills required for simple mathematics operation can only be developed by practice and practice. Questions of Class 11th or above will not be asked, so candidates should be smart enough to avoid such topics.

### Should I solve previous year papers for CLAT maths preparation?

The exam pattern has been changed in terms of question types, so solving the previous year question may not be as beneficial as one may think. However, if you want to develop elementary mathematics, you should solve the previous year question papers of CLAT.

We would suggest that you solve the previous year question papers only to check whether you can solve the basic mathematical problems or not. However, this should only be a complementary approach to the main CLAT maths preparation.

Try to solve more questions that are related to data interpretation, passage based, where you will be required to read the text and derive information to answer the questions.

For example, in mensuration, there are questions that are expressed in graphs, statistics or pictures. Candidates will need to extract the information out of the given questions and answer the questions.

### How to prepare for CLAT maths - Speed is important to answer all questions

Maths and precisely the numerical problems may consume a lot of time, hence, it is important to develop speed during the preparation phase only. Candidates must have the ability to quickly read the text or understand the graphical or pictorial representation and extract the correct information out of it.

### Solve sample papers based on new CLAT pattern

While solving the previous year papers may benefit in developing the calculation skills, it is just not enough as the exam pattern has been changed. Candidates must solve the new sample papers of CLAT that demonstrate the updated pattern. Practice is always going to be important, so the sample papers based on the new CLAT exam pattern should be solved in good numbers. Solving sample papers will help the candidates in developing habits of solving a certain type of problems within given time limits. Also, by solving the CLAT sample papers of maths, the candidates will get to know about their weak points on which they need to work on.

### CLAT maths preparation - Sample questions

The question given below is an official question as given by the consortium in one of its sample papers. Candidates can read the comprehension passage and go through the questions to understand the difficulty level of the test, type of questions and other important information.

Hare-Bhare store had an opening stock of x perishable goods with an expiry date of August 2020. The store received new stock with an expiry date of July 2020. In order to avoid spoilage, the management decided to sell the new stock before the old. A certain quantity of the new stock was sold to the first customer. To the second customer, the same quantity of the new stock as in the previous sale and a certain quantity of the old stock was sold because the store ran out of the new stock. The same quantity of the old stock was sold to each of the third and fourth customers as to the second. The total quantity of new stock sold is equal to the total quantity of old stock sold.

Use the information to answer the questions below. Any additional information required will be provided in the questions.

Question - Of the total opening stock, what fraction remained unsold?

(a) New stock / Old stock

(b) [Old stock – New stock] / Old stock

(c) 1 – [New stock / Old stock]

(d) [Old stock + New stock] / Old stock

Question - If ¾th of the old stock was sold, what fraction of the total stock was sold?

(a) 6/7

(b) 4/7

(c) 1/7

(d) 3/7

Question - Quantity of old stock sold per customer / Quantity of new stock sold per customer is equal to:

(a) 1/3

(b) 2/3

(c) 3/2

(d) 3/1

Question - The store received the third stock, which was thrice the remainder of the old stock, with an expiry date of August 2020. This time the management decided to sell the old and new stock to every alternate customer, starting with the old stock. The same quantity of stock was sold to four customers, with one customer receiving half from the old and half from the new stock because the store ran out of the old stock. The quantity of the new stock sold as a fraction of the total new stock is equal to:

(a) [Quantity sold per customer] / 4 [Opening stock]

(b) 5 [Quantity sold per customer] / 2 [Opening stock]

(c) 10 [Quantity sold per customer] / 3 [Opening stock]

(d) 5 [Quantity sold per customer] / 6 [Opening stock]

Question - If x = 120, what is the quantity sold to the fourth customer in question 1.4?

(a) 21

(b) 26

(c) 25

(d) 20
