CLAT Legal Aptitude - What will be Asked?

The legal aptitude section will comprise 4 to 5 comprehension passages, each of 450 words. The content of the passages will be drawn from legal journals, editorials, news articles and other such materials. All information will be given in the passages. As per CLAT exam pattern, each comprehension passage will be followed by 4-5 multiple choice type questions. Candidates will just need to use the information given in the passages to record their responses. No prior knowledge of legal subjects is required at the undergraduate level.

How to prepare for CLAT legal aptitude 2022 - Important tips

  1. CLAT is a lengthy paper in which candidates are required to read complex legal and non-legal texts in a short time. So, the focus should be on increasing reading speed while studying legal awareness.

  2. To improve reading as well as analytical skills required for CLAT 2022, candidates should read the editorials, articles, news analysis, journals and legal documents.

  3. The factual and conceptual knowledge can be obtained through reading the standard CLAT preparation books such as the legal aptitude book authored by A P Bharadwaj, or Indian polity by Laxamikant.

  4. Keep an eye on social, economic issues and important legal judgments - The comprehension paragraph for the legal aptitude section will be derived from such texts and news articles. How to attempt CLAT legal aptitude sections - Important points to remember

  1. Candidates should keep around 35 to 40 minutes for the legal aptitude section.

  2. In the first attempt, they should answer all questions in which they are confident. This will avoid negative marking. The doubtful questions should be answered later in the last 20 minutes

  3. To attempt the questions, candidates should not overthink and answer the questions within the context and framework of the given paragraph. This will particularly help in avoiding negative marking and make it simple for candidates to answer the questions.
