MBBS/BDS Seats in India through NEET - Class 12 medical students and guardians are always curious to know the total number of MBBS and BDS seats across India through NEET 2021. With the implementation of 10% reservation under EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category, the total MBBS seats in India have been increased by 5200. As per the latest news, 50 more MBBS seats will be added to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) from the next session onwards.

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the only entrance examination for admission to as many as 83,125 MBBS, 26,949 BDS, 52,720 AYUSH and 525 BVSc & AH seats in 542 and 313 medical and dental colleges, respectively. Earlier, in an answer to the question on March 20, 2020, in Lok Sabha, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, shared that a total of 82,926 MBBS seats in India are offered in 541 medical colleges, which includes 278 government and 263 private institutes. After the increase of total MBBS BDS seats in India through NEET has gauged the chances of aspirants for admission in government, private, deemed/central institutes.As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), from the academic session 2020-21, AIIMS, New Delhi and JIPMER, Puducherry will determine NEET scores for admission to 1,899 AIIMS MBBS and 249 JIPMER MBBS seats offered in various campuses. Besides MBBS BDS seats offered in India through NEET, the article mentions annual total intake details in all Institute of National Importance (INI) AIIMS and JIPMER institutes.

Increase in MBBS/BDS seats in India

To cope up with the requirements of the country’s rapidly growing healthcare sector, the Government of India has been attempting to raise the number of colleges, BDS seats, and total MBBS seats in India through NEET every year. The aim is to infuse more doctors into the system and strengthen it further. Aforementioned, the government has increased MBBS and BDS seats available on account of the implementation of the EWS quota which was announced for the economically weaker section of the society.
