NBE 2022: National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is an autonomous body entrusted with the task to bring standardisation in postgraduate examinations conducted in India. With a prime objective to improve the quality of medical education in the country, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) was established by the Government of India (GoI) in the year 1975. For the award of Diplomate of National Board, NBE conducts examination at postgraduate and postdoctoral exam level in 54 diverse disciplines. Prof Minu Bajpai, is the Vice President & Honorary Executive Director, National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Every year, National Board of Examinations conducts nine major examinations. Entrance Exams Conducted by NBE

NBE FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Exam)

The FMGE is a screening test conducted by NBE for Indian citizens/Overseas Indian citizens to allow them to practice medicine in India. Such candidates who qualify FMGE will be eligible to obtain a provisional or permanent registration/license from Medical Council of India or State Medical Council (SMC). The exam is conducted twice a year in the month of June and December in computer based mode.

Eligibility

  1. Must be a citizen of India or overseas citizen of India.

  2. Candidates must possess minimum qualification confirmed by Indian embassy of respective country or an institution included in the World Directory of Medical Schools as listed by World Health Organization (WHO).

  3. It is mandatory for aspirants to submit the required documents as an evidence to prove that they have passed the final examination of Primary Medical Qualification on or before the specified date.

Exam Process

Candidates who wish to appear for FMGE must register online on the official website of National Board of Examinations. The online application process for the exam tentatively begins in the second week of October every year. To successfully submit the application form, candidates will have to pay a fee of rupees Rs. 7080. Registered candidates will be issued the admit card to appear for the exam. Candidates who will qualify the exam will be issued the pass certificate. The qualified candidates will be provided with permanent/provisional registration by the MCI (Medical Council of India) to practice medicine.

NEET PG

NBE will organize NEET PG for admission to MD/MS and PG diploma courses offered in various government, private, Deemed/Central, ESIC and AFMS medical institutions across India. The entrance test is held computer based format annually in 162 test cities. MBBS graduates are required to register on the official website of NBE in order to appear for this national level entrance exam.

Eligibility

  1. Candidates must have completed MBBS from an university/institution affiliated by the MCI.

  2. Must have completed the mandatory internship before a required time frame.

  3. Must have been provisionally/permanently certified by the Medical Council of India or State Council of India.

Admission Process

NBE accepts only online registration for NEET PG. In order to fill the form, candidates belonging to the General/OBC category are required to pay rupees 4,250/- INR. Whereas, candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category will be required to pay the application fee of rupees 3,250/- INR. Only the registered candidates are issued the admit card for NEET PG. NBE will declare the result on the official website. Candidates will be able to access the result in the form of PDF document which will disclose candidates’ roll number, NEET PG rank, and the score obtained by a candidate. Once the result containing these details is released, the NBE will release the scorecard for the candidates who qualify for the 50% All India Quota (AIQ).

Total Seats: Based on the data released by the Medical Council of India (MCI), around 6,102 private, deemed, and government universities will accept qualified candidates for admission in various courses with seats including 13,649 for Master of Surgery (MS), 26,168 Doctor of Medicine (MD), and 922 for PG Diploma courses.

NEET MDS - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test MDS

The MDS (Masters of Dental Surgery) is an entrance exam conducted by NBE offering admission to the selected candidates in various dental colleges in India. The exam is conducted annually in computer based mode. Through NEET MDS, 50% All India Quota level and 50% state quota level will be filled. Admission in Deemed/Central Universities and ESIC colleges is also granted through NEET MDS.

Eligibility

  1. A candidate must be a citizen of India or an overseas citizen of India.

  2. Candidates must have passed the degree as Bachelor of Dental Surgery awarded by a recognized University/Institute in India.

  3. A candidate should have provisional/permanent registration approved by the Dental Council of India.

  4. Must have completed a mandatory 12 months of Internship before a prescribed date.

Admission Process

In order to appear for NEET MDS, candidates must fill the online application form which is released in the first week of October. Each candidate applying for NEET MDS must pay the prescribed amount of Rs. 4,250 (General category). Only registered candidates will be issued the admit card in the first week of December. The candidates will be required to secure a minimum required percentile in order to qualify the entrance test. The cutoff percentile for the candidates belonging to General category will be 50th, whereas for SC/ST/OBC the cutoff percentile will be 40th. Based on the merit achieved in the test, MCC will hold online counselling for the qualified candidates in online mode. State counselling committee of each state will be responsible for conducting counselling for state quota seats.

No. of Seats: The number of seats offered by all the dental colleges combined is 6228 seats all across the country.

DNB PDCET - Diplomate of National Board Post Diploma Centralized Entrance Test

DNB PDCET is pre-requisite exam conducted by NBE for allowing candidates to seek admission for post-diploma DNB post graduate courses. The exam is held for admission to 14 broad specialties leading to award of degree of Diplomate of National Board. The computer-based test is conducted once a year in the month of December. Candidates who are already enrolled in MD/MS/DNB program will not be allowed to appear for DNB PDCET. NBE also provides a demo test to the registered candidates to acquaint them with the exam pattern of DNB PDCET.

Eligibility

  1. Candidates must have qualified final exam in post-graduate diploma course from a recognized university.

  2. Candidates must have been registered with Medical Council of India or respective state medical council.

Admission process

DNB PDCET aspirants will have to register online on the official website of NBE within the stipulated time period. The application process for the DNB PDCET begins in the second week of October. The registered candidates will be issued the admit card in the second week of December. The exam is conducted in computer based mode in 24 test cities located across India. The result is declared by NBE in online mode in the form of separate merit list for each speciality. The result will be shown in descending order based on the marks scored by candidates. Based on the merit, NBE conducts an online counselling to grant admission to the qualified candidates.

FET- Fellowship Entrance Test

NBE also conducted Fellowship Entrance Test (FET) for the award of post-doctoral FNB programmes. The Nomenclature of the FNB qualification awarded by the NBE is “Fellow of National Board”. The list of recognized qualifications awarded by the NBE in various fellowship programmes as approved by the Government of India. The exam is conducted in computer based mode in 25 test cities in India. The

  1. Candidates must have qualified Postgraduate Medical Degree before the required date.

  2. Permanent registration certificate must be required for a candidate to appear for the exam.

Admission Process

Fellowship aspirants are required to fill the online application form of FET which tentatively begins from the second week of July every year. Candidates will be required to fill out the application form in an online mode only, and no other offline mode will be accepted by the National Board of Examinations. Candidates will be issued the admit card which has to be downloaded from the official website of NBE and affix a passport size photograph on it. Candidates who qualify the entrance test will be included in the result of FET. In order to qualify candidates will have to score a minimum of 50th percentile. Candidates are also informed that the result will only be valid for the same year and will not be carried forward to the next year.

DNB CET

The seat allotment process of DNB CET will be done annually in the month of January annually. NBE does not conduct a separate exam for DNB CET. Candidates who wish to take admission in DNB CET will have to appear in NEET PG and follow all the pre-exam events. The admission to 16 broad specialities through DNB CET hospitals.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have completed MBBS degree/provisional pass certificate as per the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.

  • Such aspirants should have appeared and passed NEET PG exam by securing the prescribed cutoff percentile.

  • They must possess the permanent/provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or State Medical Council (SMC).

Admission process

As mentioned above, DNB CET aspirants will have to write NEET PG. Each candidate will have to register online on the NBE official website to appear for the examination. The counselling of DNB CET is conducted by NBE in online mode. Candidates willing to participate in DNB CET counselling will have to pay Rs. 5900 inluding GST. The counselling of DNB CET is done on the basis of preferences given by the candidates.

Total seats: Candidates who will qualify DNB PDCET will be granted admission in 1,338 seats offered in 649 hospitals in the country.
